How to save up the extra money you will need to go to conventions (and not spend as much at them):

1. Start saving now. Right now. As soon as you finish reading this list.

2. Go through all those old manga you haven't read in a long time, and decide if you can give any up. Go to your local bookstores to see if they can buy them or you can always count on eBay and Craigslist to post them for sale. It's not like you are never going to buy more, so suck it up.

3. Do the same with your DVDs, anime or not. Especially the ones from the 90s that you are not even sure what possessed you to buy them in the first place. If you have to sit there and think about it for more than 5 minutes, off it goes. This also applies to random junk in your closet.

4. If you are an artist, try and sell some of your art or offer commissions through sites like Deviantart.com. It's pretty competative, but if you can find a niche, it's well worth it.

5. Try spending in whole dollar amounts for a while, and set aside your pocket change in a jar. This is a good way to save up for anything, since that change will eventually build up.

6. Think back to those summer odd jobs you had when you were younger. I mentioned art previously, but if you are not an artist, try car washes and bake sales and stuff. It may be hard to set aside the entire amount, so commit yourself to at least saving a portion each time.

7. Coupons! When convention time draws close, look for coupons for nationwide restaurant chains. Those two for one deals just might get you a free meal when you really need it.

8. Do the math. Decide what hotels and parking garages are most convenient and least expensive. Simply planning ahead (more than two days ahead, please) can save you a headache and a lot of money.

9. Find people to room with/travel with that won't bail on you. The last thing you or anyone else needs is to find out that their so called friend is broke, and they are letting you know half way to the con.

10. Don't spend all your hard earned money on pizza just because you are hungry and don't want to cook. I've done this. What use is there in earning and saving if it just goes up in smoke? Hide the money away if you have to! Bury it in the backyard! Just don't touch it until it's time. Learn from my fail.
